1. NEW MASK GUIDLINES CAUSING REASSESSMENT AT OSHA
After the CDC released updated mask guidelines, OSHA and the Administration are scrambling to determine what this means for worker safety going forward. The Department of Labor was in the last stages of finalizing OSHA’s mandatory COVID-19 safety standard. With the sudden change in CDC guidelines, the standard will likely have to undergo some changes with regulators determining the best path forward.
NECA’s Look Ahead: NECA is monitoring this issue closely to see what will be included in the anticipated OSHA COVID-19 standard and will promptly update NECA members.
2. BIDEN DOL NOMINEES MOVE TOWARD CONFIRMATION
Next week, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee will be holding confirmation hearings for three DOL nominees: Doug Parker, Rajesh Nayak and Taryn Mackenzie Williams. Parker, Biden’s nominee to lead OSHA, currently manages the California division of OSHA. Nayak, Biden’s nominee for Assistant Secretary of Labor and Policy, served in the Department of Labor under President Obama. Taryn Mackenzie Williams, Biden’s nominee for Assistant Secretary of Labor for Disability Employment Policy, also worked as President Obama’s chief of staff in the Office of Disability Employment Policy.
NECA’s Look Ahead: NECA looks forward to these confirmation hearings and the continued staffing of the Department of Labor. We are optimistic on their confirmations and look forward to continuing our working relationship with the Department of Labor on behalf of NECA contractors.
