Electrical Contractor Essentials: Register Now for July 27th Class
Over 60% of NECA members consist of small and medium contractors, making them the backbone to the electrical contracting industry.
Designed specifically for NECA’s small and medium-sized contractors, this program will bring in experts to discuss the essential elements of finance, insurance and risk, and legal issues that all contractors need to know. The first run of this class sold out in record time, so don’t delay!
The financial section will focus on the components of financial statements, cash flow, profit fade, work in process schedules, cycle time, and the concept of margin versus markup.
Legal matters such as recommended clauses and provisions for product and service contracts, wage and hour changes, and best practices for internal investigations will be discussed.
Finally, we’ll conclude with a discussion on common coverage concerns, risk management culture, best practices for fleet/driving, workers compensation, and bonding.
Note: Participating attendees in this program will receive a $99 credit for the NECA 2021 Convention in Nashville.

Legal Alert: Practical Advice for Managing Price Escalation Throughout a Construction Project
Material price escalation is the biggest concern facing the construction industry this year. The prices of raw construction materials, particularly steel and lumber, have been rapidly increasing since early 2020. That has led to significant economic risk, which has fallen disproportionately onto the shoulders of NECA members.
While there is certainly no magic bullet, and members are encouraged to seek competent local legal counsel and financial advice, we trust that this white paper will assist with some general guidance and practical advice.
Cross Country for a Cure: NECA Member rides across country to raise money for ALS
One month into his new job at McDonald Electrical Corporation, Mike Myers learned that a fellow co-worker, Leo Cooney, had been diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as “Lou Gehrig’s disease”) and he was moved to act.
He learned of the many efforts by Friends of Leo, an organization devoted to ensuring care and support for Leo Cooney, and about the severity of ALS. Myers grew up seeing his father suffer from Multiple Sclerosis and saw that ALS also had a swift and harsh impact on those diagnosed.
“Within a day, I knew I wanted to help in a significant way,” said Myers. He decided on a 4,000-mile cross-country bike ride to raise awareness and funds for ALS ONE in honor of Leo. ALS ONE is a coalition of ALS research and care leaders who are determined to find more effective and efficient ways to combat the fatal disease. The organization was founded by Kevin Gosnell, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2015 and set out to change the lives of those affected with ALS.
Myers, an electrician and Local 103 IBEW member for thirty-two years, is an ardent cyclist who has previously ridden for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and National Breast Cancer Foundation. On Wednesday, June 16th Myers began his lengthy bike journey from Astoria, Oregon to his longtime hometown of Marshfield, Massachusetts. He will ride through 14 states, biking a total of nearly 4,000 miles over the course of about two months.
We hope you’ll follow Mike’s journey from Astoria, Oregon to Marshfield, MA with us. He began his ride on June 14th and will arrive home in August, having slept under the stars each night with one dream: to help end ALS.
